David Goerz has more than 27 years of global investment management experience in various leadership and portfolio management roles, including as Chief Investment Officer since 2002. He has chaired investment and asset allocation committees since 1997, while managing various equity and global asset allocation strategies for institutional, mutual fund and high net worth clients worldwide as portfolio manager since 1991.
His distinguished track record spans global tactical asset allocation, currency management, quantitative US and global equity strategies, global bonds, long-short, and venture capital. He has pioneered innovations in strategic policy, portfolio optimization, return forecasting, hedging / derivatives and risk management, as well as implementing the first known completion and transition fund management mandates in 1994.
David is CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Strategic Frontier Management, which he founded in 2015 to provide global tactical and strategic asset allocation portfolio solutions and investment strategy advisory consulting for asset owners, family offices, trusts and their investment advisers.
Previously, David was EVP, Head of Investment Strategy and Risk Management for Alberta Investment Management (AIMCo) with $85bn under management for agencies of the Province of Alberta. He chaired both the Management Investment Committee and Tactical Risk Allocation Committee.
He has also held Chief Investment officer or senior investment / portfolio management roles for HighMark Capital Management / MUFG Union Bank (SVP, Chief Investment Officer), mPower Advisors (SVP, Chief Investment Officer), Morningstar Associates (SVP, Chief Investment Officer), Wellington Management Company (VP, Director of Global Asset Allocation Research and Portfolio Manager), TSA Capital Management (SVP, Senior Investment Strategist and Research Director), and ARCO Investment Management (Senior Quantitative Analyst and Portfolio Manager). Before embarking on his investment career, he was a Research Engineer in Operations Research Engineering for General Dynamics.
David has served on the Board of Directors for Axioma Inc. since 2004 and is Chair of the Compensation Committee. He also served on the Board of Directors for Mismi Inc. (2010-14), the Board of Directors for Bloom Energy (2014), the Board of Directors for Institutional Investors Roundtable (2014-15) and the Strategic Advisory Board of the CFA Society of San Francisco (2007-13). He received his bachelor’s degree from UCLA in applied mathematics and a master’s in operations research engineering from Stanford University.
